YOUTH CORPERS;Our only way of getting things right.

History has shown that elections in Nigeria are always marred by violence and wide scale election rigging,that's why unscrupulous politicians who have the best rigging machinery always end of winning elections. Nigerians are shouting ENOUGH IS ENOUGH and demanding that elections be free and fair but what they fail to understand is that, there is no iota of integrity in the politics of today and if we want free and fair elections we must monitor april elections and resist election rigging in whatever form.

Coincidentally or may I say by an act of God we youths are in the exact position to determine if this april elections would be rigged or not. It is a common technique of election rigging that the ballot papers are snatched or collected,thumb printed in the privacy of enclosed environs and later returned to INEC for counting,if the ballot papers cannot be snatched,the INEC agents are then bribed to thumb print all the ballot papers in the favour of a political party,video footage was shown recently in the last Governorship elections in osun state,where 2 men all by themselves thumb printed all the ballot papers in favour of PDP while a 3rd man put them into the ballot box.

Answer the following question;
which group of people would be kept in charge of ballot boxes in the coming april elections?. The answer is INEC officials who are members of the NYSC,that's right,youths like you and I have been the ones selling away our birth rights for 2000 naira. NYSC members have consciously aided politicians rig elections,even many of them have been arrested and charged to court for these offence.

What is the essence then of raising our voices against corruption or no power supply or of lack of jobs,we sold our birthright for chicken change and now we suffer in our foolishness. As long as NYSC members and other youths continue to help rig elections,the coming april elections would therefore be no different from what has transpired over the years and we all just better settle down for another four years of heavy suffering even amidst plenty of resources.

During the 2003 elections,I happened to be an undergraduate and witnessed one of such recruitment. On the friday evening before the election,a bus drove round my campus (O.O.U) and a young man was enticing guys with the words easy money and runs. All the people who volunteered were taken to a local food canteen where they were served food and cheap alcohol till they could eat and drink no more,they were housed in a cheap guest house and early on the day of election,they were distributed 2 persons to each polling centre and armed with cutlasses with which they threatened and molested the crowd,others were given guns and asked to snatch ballot boxes. Upon completion they were each paid 1,500 naira and because of that amount they elected a Governor who did not maintain the infrastructure in their schools,there was no security and thus they were often attacked and killed by indigenes of the town,2000 people were asked to use a lecture hall with a capacity for 500,their certificates are rejected as substandard, Why do they now complain when they caused it with their own actions.

It is a rare opportunity that we youths are blessed with,to be shouldered with the responsibility of administering the Nation wide elections,it is a time we should use to prove men like IBB wrong,men that believe the Nigerian youths cannot be trusted with anything. It is a time youths should stand firm and support their advocacy with action, a time where we must all chose a path of integrity if we intend to save our Nation and better our lot in this country.

Help save Nigeria,talk to your brothers,sisters,cousins,uncles and friends who are youth corpers, they must all shun rigging,let all youth corpers stand together as one and say "THERE WILL BE NO RIGGING IN THE UPCOMING ELECTIONS,NOT ON THEIR WATCH.
