VILLAINS OR NOBLE MEN

Character is the interpretation of habits.
John Dewey (1859 - 1952)
U.S. philosopher and educator.

This one is for the leaders, no thanks for what you have done to my family, no thanks for the lives of my brothers and sisters, lost for lack of health care, no thanks for the second class education, no thanks for the lack of security, no thanks for the lack of infrastructure, no thanks for imposing inapt leadership on me, no thanks for the lack of electricity and the scarcity of petroleum products, no thanks for the police man that robbed me, no thanks for the undulating roads that rumble my tummy and wreck my vehicle, no thanks for my joblessness, need I mention the poor standard of living? No thanks for that too!

This one is for you reading, thank you for being inspired to cause positive change.

MY GENERATION WOULD MAKE A CHANGE

Look around you, is this the Nigeria great men like Nnamdi Azikwe, Awolowo, and Tarfa Balewa envisaged?. If they could all see what our Country has become, won’t they role in their graves. When fighting for independence, did our fore fathers plan kidnapping, militancy, worthless education, wide scale corruption, lack of infrastructure and basic health care system as the norm?
With the resources available to this Nation, we are still suffering from underdevelopment, which is nothing but a shame. This is because leaders for the past 50 years have done nothing but ignore the plight of the masses; they have stolen public funds and built for themselves riches in foreign countries while you and I wallow in our misery. I call them a failed generation.
The mantle to lead this great Country would soon be put in the hands of our generation, what would we do in our time? I know one thing for sure, we would do a better job, we would learn from the mistakes of our shameless leaders and build a country our children would be proud of.
As future Law makers, we must see ourselves not only as officers in the temple of justice but also as crusaders in the fight for good governance and socio-economic development. We must make Nigeria a better place for ourselves and others.
God bless Nigeria and everywhere else.

TIME FOR SOBER REFLECTIONS

Me, I like my Country, I like the land and People, everything e dey for Nigeria, make we join hands to make Nigeria better.(Anonymous)

My fellow Nigerians,
The past 50 years have been full of bitter sweet memories for Nigeria, we have experienced civil war, survived natural and manmade disasters, economic meltdowns, military dictatorship, discovered oil, social disintegration and the effect of failed leadership strategies. It is at moments like this that we pay homage to our heroes past; Nnamdi Azikwe, Tafawa Balewa, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Muritala Mohamed, Ahmadu Bello, Sam Ewang, AIvan Ikoku, Herbert Macauly, to mention a few.

This also is a period of sober reflection, we should evaluate our failures as a Nation, appreciate our success but most importantly look into the future. Our Society is far from perfect and we still suffer from cancerous social vices such as corruption and lack of adequate infrastructure. Generations of Leaders past have failed us and as another general election stare us in the face, we wonder at the uncertainty of our future as a Nation.

Societies such as the United States, England, Singapore and Japan have succeeded in becoming world powers, not because they have superior powers or talents but because every citizen took it upon themselves to contribute significantly to the growth of their Homeland. It is time we also as Nigerians took up initiative to implement proactive legislations, set aside our tribal differences and focus our energies on positive growth and development.

My brothers and Sisters let us join hands to make Nigeria better.

Thank You.

ENEMIES WITHIN

“The Third World is not a reality but an ideology.”
Hannah Arendt (1906 - 1975)
German-born U.S. philosopher and historian.
Crises of the Republic, "On Violence"

Events of the early hours of Friday, October 1st 2010 serves as confirmation that there exists in our Nation, enemies of progress and development. The bomb blast which killed and injured many people was an act of terrorism. What image did the perpetrators intend to portray to the international community, that our country is not safe and incapable of growth and stability? They continue to use our continued decay to their selfish and criminal advantage. We must purge these unscrupulous persons from our Home land.
Dimeji Bankole, Honorable speaker of the House of Assembly blamed the lack of accountability in the Nigerian government on the electorate, our inability to demand transparency from our elected representatives in public service positions allows for politicians to squander our public funds and use the police to protect their ill gotten wealth. We must purge these unscrupulous persons from our society and send them to jail.
It is time we as leaders of tomorrow become socially aware of our predicament, we must promote unity, patriotism, peace and progress. We must be the change we want to see in our great Country. If we continue to be uncaring and lackadaisical to the issue of governance in Nigeria, before our eyes we would watch as rogues and thieves run us into the ground while we rot in self pity and sorrow. We must purge ourselves of this despondency, shake away negative attitudes and embrace proactive initiatives.
The future of this great nation is in our hands, we must protect and defend it.
Thank you.
